HomeBuy Direct scheme 'good for property industry'

The HomeBuy Direct scheme, which allows people to get on the
property ladder through the method of joint ownership with their
local council, has helped the housing industry in the south-east of
England.
At least that is the view of Paula Carter, south-east regional
sales manager for homebuilder Taylor Wimpey, who has claimed that
the programme is enabling consumers to purchase property "when they
didn't think they'd be able to".
It has proved most popular with first-time buyers and families
living in rented accommodation, she added.
Moreover, the most sought-after properties have been the
three-bedroom town houses provided by the initiative.
"[The HomeBuy Direct scheme] is proving extremely popular at the
present time," Ms Carter explained.
According to the National Association of Estate Agents, confidence
has returned among first-time buyers in recent months as prices
have dropped and interest rates have hit record low levels.
