Survey reveals university town boom
University towns have been undergoing a boom in their house prices
greater than the country at large, a new survey has
indicated.
The Halifax University Town House Price Review has revealed that of
the 64 university towns studied 17 had house price premiums of
£10,000 or more above their county's average.
In nine locations this premium was at least £20,000.
Three cities - Belfast, Dundee and Bradford - saw house prices rise
by 100 per cent over the past five years, while there were also
large rises in that period for places with the biggest student
populations.
Manchester, which had the highest number of students (73,000), saw
a 63 per cent rise, while Liverpool (53,000) was up 71 per
cent.
The evidence of a boom follows news from property portal
propertyfinder.com last week that in August nearly all the top 20
towns seeing the highest demand for both buyers and renters had
university campuses.
